What is Basophil Activation Test (BAT)?

The Basophil Activation Test (BAT) is an ex vivo diagnostic blood test that measures how basophil cells degranulate (activate) when exposed to a specific allergen. EXBIO offers the BasoFlowEx Kit product, whose principle is based on BAT. This product is now IVDR compliant.

What are the benefits for you?

  • Standardization of the BAT (Basophil Activation Test) performance.
  • Simplifying product implementation into laboratory testing methods.
  • Notified body supervision of the production and logistics of the product as well as any changes.
  • Utilization of the uniform identification using UDI.
  • Optimization of the kit composition allows the use of peripheral blood with heparin or EDTA anticoagulant.
Other products that can be used for BAT include allergens. The following two products are IVDR compliant, too.

Representative Examples

The images below illustrate a representative examples of the Basophil Activation Test (BAT) performance using the BasoFlowEx Kit in combination with Honey bee venom allergen (i1).

The results clearly demonstrate:
  • a negative signal in a blood sample from a healthy donor
  • a strong positive signal in a sample from a patient allergic to honey bee venom.
Furthermore, the data confirm that the BasoFlowEx Kit delivers consistent and reliable performance across both heparinanticoagulated and EDTA-anticoagulated whole blood samples, maintaining excellent assay sensitivity and specificity in both matrices.
